Meany SamMy two children are perennially conjuring all types of ridiculousness. They create characters, give them names and have them engage in several varieties of tomfoolery. It’s one of my favorite things about them. For example, I recently made the acquaintance of Suzy Kee, her brother Natole (pronounced Nah-tol-eh), their sister Gwots and the littlest brother, Tudrow.

On occasion Adeline goes by her stage name, Little Miss Emberly Clark.

Heaven help us.

But it’s all good clean fun and we laugh a lot for it.

Then there’s Meany Sam. This is Adeline’s name for anyone who isn’t being nice to her. Sometimes this includes people who won’t do the thing that Adeline wants them to do. Which sometimes includes things like not letting her do what she wants to be allowed to do. If it’s not to her liking then “you’re being Meany Sam.”

It’s super adorable. Which I believe she realizes. But she’s really just trying to feast on your emotions like a cute little vulture with two dimples where they should be and one on her left temple right on the border with her eyebrow. It’s not even fair. So I play along. It’s the only defense against a double onslaught of cuteness and will.

I accused Meredith of being Meany Sam. I guess it’s less cute when I do it.

Everybody does it though. We all complain about something or someone long before we find the heart to act. Especially when that action is to take ownership of our life.

Instead of crying Meany Sam.

Which is only adorable when your 7 and is never effective.
