Today we gather to bury Greed.
Many of you were probably very close with Greed so this day may weigh heavy on your heart. That being said, it is unknown how many of you may be here because you miss him dearly and how many of you may be here to just make sure he’s gone.
When we first heard of his passing it was hard to believe. Greed always seemed to have more than most. The guy that had it all. The one who always seemed invincible.
No one had more stuff than Greed. Greed often asked, “Are you going to finish that?”, taking it off your hands before you could answer. That was just his way. He didn’t need you to tell him to take anything. He just wanted to help lighten our load. We can only assume.
Let’s be honest, while we are all shocked that this day is here, there’s a chance that most of us slightly yearned for it. Greed always seemed to find a way ahead of us. No matter how long we waited or how much effort we put in, somehow Greed always ended up with a little more in a little less time.
And he looked at us with those eyes…with that “no one’s stopping you” glare.
Greed always took two handfuls, then he’d wait for you to open the door for him.
Greed would always ask for a ride to work and tell you how much money you were saving him by driving.
You do have to give it to him though…Greed was a very goal oriented person. When he saw something he liked he had an appetite like no other.
There’s a rumor too that the Beanie Baby craze ended when Greed managed to acquire them all.
Greed never valued you or your time. He was always so distracted. Greed never looked you in the eye when you spoke either. He constantly looked over your shoulder at who may be walking in the room behind you.
Greed reminded us that all was ours for the taking if we had the will to reach out and grab it…before someone else did. Yet, no one else but Greed did. This was the beauty of Greed’s vision.
Greed saw so much value in his surroundings. Greed suggested that there was always a gold lining when you were staring at a silver one. Maybe this is that gold lining now.
We sit here together.
Staring at Greed in his silver lined box, sized perfectly to hold him and not one Beanie Baby.
