Apple orchard

Ever have one of those perfect apples? They make you look like a savage when you eat one of em.

I had one of these apples about a week ago. I didn’t know what I was in for as I took the first bite while driving around. Upon finishing the red fruit, I was left with a sticky hand, face, and apple core. I decided that core was far too sticky for my car.

So I whipped the core out the window into an open field.

I immediately heard my mother’s voice telling me I shouldn’t have done that. She would say it could attract animals to the roadside and put them in danger.

This is why I whipped the apple core really far, so I wouldn’t put any animals in harms way.

I was also helping the environment. I was probably starting some sort of circle of life (cue the Lion King music).

Most likely, ants marched to that apple core and slowly finished the remains feeding their colony. Eventually the apple will decompose and worms will make it into a fertile soil. Somewhere a baby bird is starving. Luckily, the mother spotted one of these worms and was able to save her baby.

I’m kind of a hero.

If you think what I did was littering than we should probably cut down all the apple trees because they litter a million times more than I do every fall.

If tossing an apple core on the ground is wrong, I don’t want to be right.

In reality I did litter.

I’m just rationalizing my behavior like many of us do.

Many times we rationalize because we feel bad about a situation and want to feel better.

  • I should’ve called Mom back but I was really busy this weekend.
  • I should start dieting but the holidays are coming up.
  • I shouldn’t record that extra mileage but gas is expensive.

Perhaps there is something you’ve been rationalizing lately?

I understand if you’re too busy to give this anymore thought.

Worth considering though.

A little more about Eric Worral...

I try and separate the trivial from the important things in life. I believe the way we treat each other matters a great deal.
