A shovel can be used to plant a tree. It can also be used to bury a body. There’s a duplicitous nature to almost everything. It’s good to know this. It’s helpful to remember that we get to choose. We get to choose how we use things.
Things like time. Or information. Or our attention. Or our voice.
They can sway many ways. Which we already know. Still we allow ourselves to get distracted. Still we distract ourselves and pretend we don’t know. But we could change that.
We could focus.
We could preserve ourselves.
We could bend things to our bidding. Rather than bowing to them.
We could shape them rather than succumb to their shapes.
We could choose what’s important and when.
We could give ourselves over to it.
It could beautiful. It could bury us.
But isn’t that always the case?
