Nine days ago I finished a marathon. All 26.2 miles.
A couple years ago I had no business even thinking about running a marathon.
But I started running a little bit. And it got a little easier. And one thing lead to another.
The biggest change was the change in my perspective, though.
I started to see myself as the type of person that is capable of running a marathon.
And that’s important. Because you don’t do anything you don’t first do in your mind. (And that’s not just something you put on a motivational poster. There’s actual neuroscience that backs this up.)
That’s one thing running a marathon taught me.
It also taught me that our bodies are capable of much more than we give them credit for.
And so is the support our friends and loved ones have in store for us when we do something daring.
And that you don’t have to be an exceptionally special person to take an exceptionally special action.
But you can figure this out without running until your knees want to disown you.
So do it. Whether it’s for you, me or anyone else.
You are that person.
Please start.
